Dora Olivo (Democratic Party) was a judge for Precinct 4 of the Fort Bend County Justice of the Peace in Texas. Olivo assumed office on November 1, 2023. Olivo left office on December 31, 2024.

Biography

Olivo is the Founder of the Lo Nuestro Radio Show, KFRD, serving as host from 1977-1992. Her career experience includes working as an attorney and teacher.

Olivo has served as a Board Member of the Fort Bend Housing Finance Corporation and National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators. She also served on the Board of the Fort Bend Family Health Clinic and was Director of the Fort Bend Voter Registration Education Project.

  • HB 172 - Relating to the right of a parent of a public school student to immediate notice of certain disciplinary action taken against the student.

Olivo ran in the 2012 election for Texas House of Representatives, District 85. Olivo ran unopposed in the May 29 primary election and was defeated by Phil Stephenson (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[2]

In the March 2 primary election, Olivo was defeated for the Democratic nomination by Ron Reynolds. Reynolds defeated Olivo by a margin of 5,159-3,791.[3]

2008

On November 4, 2008, Olivo won re-election to the Texas House of Representatives from Texas' 27th District, defeating Steve Host (R). Olivo received 48,415 votes in the election while Host received 25,434 votes.[4] Olivo raised $157,865 for her campaign; Host raised $64,334.[5]

Campaign themes

2012

On her website Olivo highlights four issue areas of interest to her:[6]

  • Education - increase state funding for education while reducing residential property taxes, disciplinary schools must provide students with educational opportunities, minimize negative impacts of standardized testing.
  • Healthcare - opposed to cuts in Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), against privatizing state health care providers.
  • Opportunity - fought deregulation of state college and university tuition rates, "defended the “Top Ten Percent Rule” which guarantees students who graduate in the top ten percent of their class are eligible to attend the state college or university of their choice"
  • Clean Air & Water - championing clean air and water, "ensure local governments can safeguard the public's drinking water supply by preventing developers from using grandfathering clauses to circumvent modern day regulations."
