Campaign themes

2016

Nixon's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Repeal Common Core

Common Core has hurt our schools and punished our children and teachers with a burdensome testing regiment that inhibits that frustrates both learning and teaching. I believe in our experienced teachers and administrators and I will fight to return control of our schools to the local level.

Reduce Property Taxes

Binghamton, Johnson City, and Union-Endicott are three of the four highest taxed municipalities in the Southern Tier in a state that is, annually, one of the highest taxed in the country. I will fight to lower property taxes to keep our families in the Southern Tier.

Term Limits for Elected Officials

Corruption is rampant in Albany. Our trust has been abused by career politicians. No change will happen with the same individual holding a seat for over a decade, which is why I support term limits for all state elected offices.

SUNY Tuition Freeze

Higher education is a pathway to success for our young people. Unfortunately, excessive tuition increases for SUNY schools are going to rob many of our young people of the chance to attend college. I propose an eight-year tuition freeze to make college tuition more affordable for working families.

Repeal the S.A.F.E. Act

The S.A.F.E. Act, which restricts our Second Amendment rights, was passed with little to no public input. Like many upstate New Yorkers, I support the full repeal of the S.A.F.E. Act.[1]
