Dorothy Chin Brandt was an acting justice of the Supreme Court 11th Judicial District, Criminal Term, in Queens County, New York. She was appointed to this position in 2001. She joined the New York City Civil Court in 1988. Her last term expired in December 2017.[1][2][3][4]

Biography and Education

Chin-Brandt received her undergraduate degree from the University of Chicago in 1967. After working as a teacher for a year, she entered politics, working as an assistant campaign manager and then as an assistant mayoral aide. She graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1974 and then received her LL.M. degree from Harvard Law School in 1975.[2]

Career

Chin-Brandt began her career as Assistant Dean of Graduate Legal Studies at Harvard Law School. She worked in this position from 1975 to 1978 and was simultaneously a professor at Boston College Law School from 1976 to 1978. She then moved to New York City to work for the law firm of Shearman & Sterling as an associate. The following year, she joined the firm of Dilworth & Paxson in Washington, D.C. She then worked as a private practice lawyer from 1982 until her judicial election in 1987. She was elected to the New York City Civil Court, originally serving in Manhattan. She was later assigned to the Criminal Court of Queens County. She was also a temporary Acting Supreme Court Justice in 1991 and 1992.[2]
