Doug Nelson was a magistrate judge of the Columbia County Magistrate Court in Columbia County, Georgia. He took office in 2007. After facing misconduct allegations, he resigned from his position, on May 1, 2014.[1]

Nelson resigns after judicial misconduct allegations
A press release issued by Columbia County's chief magistrate judge, Jason Troiano indicated Judge Nelson decided to resign voluntarily.[2] An article in The Columbia County News-Times noted Troiano took Nelson off the magistrate court calendar on May 1, 2014, and planned to file a complaint against him with the Georgia Judicial Qualifications Commission.[3]
According to other court officials, two women reported that Nelson made inappropriate remarks and touched them inappropriately while he served as a court-appointed guardian ad litem in their divorce cases. An incident involving one of the women, Tina Wright, allegedly took place in 2011. However, her attorney warned her to delay reporting the incident until after her divorce was finalized.[1]
