A native of Indiana, I moved to Colorado in 1999 to enjoy the great Colorado outdoors and the tremendous economy that existed in Colorado at that time. I spent my professional career working as a certified public accountant with a Big 4 international accounting firm as well as serving in executive leadership roles, including CFO and CEO, in a number of financial services firms as well as in the non-profit industry. I was elected to the Board of Education in Pike Township, Indianapolis, serving as President of the Board for 2 years, and also ran for the Republican nomination for Mayor of Indianapolis in 1991.

I am a master scuba instructor, a private pilot and enjoy riding my Harley motor cycle whenever I can. I have given back to my community by serving as a Cub Scout leader, Little League baseball coach and serving on the boards of directors of numerous non-profit organizations over the years.

I earned a B.S. degree in Accounting from Ball State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. I am a Certified Public Accountant (with active licenses in Colorado, Florida, Indiana and Texas) and Certified Management Accountant.

  • I am a CPA and will fight for fiscal responsibility so you can spend your money the way you want.
  • I am a CFO and will fight for limited government to allow our business community to thrive so that you can thrive.
  • As a former school board president, I will fight for parental and local control of education so your tax dollars and our teachers time can focus on teaching our children, not administrative work.
1. Restoring parental and local control over education.

2. Creating a regulatory and taxation environment that supports the growth of businesses.
3. Maintaining fiscal responsibility to lower taxes for our citizens.
4. Lowering the actual cost of health care and health insurance, not simply shifting the cost from one party to another, while enhancing the ability of every citizen to have adequate health insurance.
5. Focusing on developing a transportation infrastructure for the benefit of all citizens, not simply those who favor clean energy transportation alternatives.

6. Creating a systematic approach to treating individuals suffering from mental health issues to maximize their opportunity to lead full, productive lives.
I admire anyone who is willing to put him or herself in the arena and fight the good fight for a cause he or she believes in. This is Teddy Roosevelt's "Its not the critic who counts..." quote. Far too many people today simply want to criticize or tear down those who try to do good for society. If they fail in their efforts, the result is being insulted, humiliated and shamed. If they succeed, they are attacked for either succeeding at the wrong task or not doing enough. If they are too successful, the attempts may be to literally destroy their reputation, their career and their family. Over time, far too many of our citizens have simply stopped trying and society is worse off as a result. Those who are willing to risk the insults, humiliation, shame, and criticism of good deeds that did not go far enough are the only hope for the future of our people, our society and our country. I may not agree with the cause they are fighting for, but I admire their commitment. More often than not, these individuals are not those whose names are thrown about in the media, and they rarely are well paid for their efforts. Its the average citizen who sees a problem and works to fix it. My personal goal is to be inspired and remain strong by the example these individuals provide all of us.
I believe my professional experience as a CPA and CFO/CEO for a number of companies, ranging from small, privately owned firms to multi-billion dollar international organizations, provides me with a breadth and depth of professional experience to make meaningful improvements in the Colorado government to support the growth of our business community for the benefit of all Coloradans. My experience as an elected school board have given me insights on how to most effectively structure our K-12 education system for the benefit of all students. My life experience of having family members who are military veterans, suffered mental health issues, dealt with substance abuse issues, suffered through the challenges of government run health care programs, are gay, and have been involved in the legal system provides me with a tremendous understanding of these issues and empathy with individuals who have similar life experiences.
I believe the core responsibility for anyone elected to office is to support the Constitution of the United States and the State that they are serving in. These documents enshrine the very foundational beliefs of our country and state, including the allocation of rights and responsibilities to our citizens, the Federal government and the state governments.

I believe that elected officials must always listen to the citizens and any actions taken and laws passed must support the wishes of the citizens within the framework of the US and State Constitutions.
Any political biography. I enjoy studying the challenges other leaders have faced and their approaches to tackling the important issues of their day. These provide tremendous insights into ways to be successful as well as providing valuable lessons on how to avoid mistakes others have made.
Unfortunately, today there is no difference between the legislative chambers in the state of Colorado. The one party control of all state offices and both chambers in the legislature have resulted in a singular group think within the state government. By not allowing competing voices to be heard and actually considered, let alone adopting one or more ideas espoused by these competing voices, Coloradans are denied access to the best of all ideas.

While in theory the different terms of office should allow our senators to take a longer view on problems being addressed, the extensive resignations of our representatives and senators for job opportunities outside of the legislature and the resulting appointment of unelected individuals to fill these seats, including the appointment of representatives to senate seats, results in a turnover that is much higher than desired and the frequent need for senators to run for election to their office after appointment. None of these individuals can focus on the long term impact of their decisions as too many always have an election a few months away, regardless of whether they are in the house of representatives or the senate.
No. I believe having a greater breadth of practical work experience among our elected officials generates a wider variety of ideas and perspectives as the legislative bodies work towards solutions to problems that can benefit the largest number of Coloradans as possible.
I believe the State of Colorado needs to refocus it policy initiatives from taking over ever larger segments of our citizens lives and economy and instead work to enhance our citizens abilities to experience their God given rights and liberties as they pursue their personal American Dream, whatever that may be for each Coloradan.
