Douglas B. Thomas was the presiding judge for the Utah Seventh Judicial District.[1] Thomas was first appointed to the court in April 2007 by Gov. Jon Huntsman (R).[2] In October 2011, he was appointed as presiding judge for a two-year term.[3] Thomas retired on January 1, 2020.[4]

Thomas earned his undergraduate degree from Weber State University. He went on to receive his M.B.A from the University of Utah. He then earned his J.D. from the University of Utah College of Law in 1989.[2] After earning his degree, Thomas worked for the firm of Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall and McCarthy and later for Gridley, Ward and Shaw. He served as a district court commissioner from 2003 to 2007.[2]

Utah held retention elections for local judicial offices on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for sitting judges seeking retention was April 15, 2016. Douglas Thomas was retained in the Utah 7th District Court (Thomas Seat) election with 76.73 percent of the vote. [5]
