Douglas Gerlach was a judge on the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona. He served on the court from 2010 to 2020. He was initially appointed in September 2010 by Gov. Jan Brewer (R) to succeed Judge Barbara Rodriguez Mundell. Gerlach won election to a full four-year term in 2012. He won retention again in the general election on November 8, 2016. Gerlach retired from the court on November 16, 2020.[1]

Biography

Gerlach received a B.A. in political science (1972), M.A. in political science (1977), M.B.A. (1981), and J.D. (1981) from Arizona State University. He started his legal career in private practice as an associate with the firm of Brown and Bain P.A. (1981–2000), becoming partner with the firm in 1988. During this time, he spent two years as a public defender for Maricopa County (1993–1995). In 2000, Gerlach became a partner at the firm of Strouss & Salmon PLC, where he worked for a decade before being appointed to the superior court.[2]

Arizona held elections for 80 superior court judgeships on November 8, 2016. Sixty-three of those seats were up for retention election. Three counties—Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal—use retention elections for their superior courts.[3]

Gerlach was retained with 68.59 percent of the vote in the general election on November 6, 2012.[4][5]
