Douglas L. Blankenship

Douglas L. Blankenship was the presiding superior court judge for the Fourth Judicial District Superior Court in Fairbanks, Alaska. Blankenship was appointed on March 10, 2006, by Gov. Frank Murkowski (R). Blankenship was retained for a six-year term in 2010 and in 2016. In 2010, he was re-appointed as presiding judge in 2010.[1] Blankenship retired in May 2019.[2]
Education
Judge Blankenship received his B.A. in political science from The Ohio State University in 1976 and his J.D. from Gonzaga University in 1980.[3][4]
Career
In 1979 Judge Blankenship did a one-year internship in the City of Spokane Prosecutor's Office. From 1980 to 1981 he worked in Fairbanks with Birch, Horton, Bittner, Pestinger & Anderson. From 1985 to 1987 he worked with Call, Barret & Burbank in Fairbanks. He worked in commercial law and litigation from 1987 to 1990 with Birch, Horton, Bittner & Cherot. He was a Deputy Attorney General from 1990 to 1991 in Juneau, Alaska. From 1990 to 1995 he worked with the Attorney General Office in Fairbanks. In 1992 he returned to Fairbanks to work as an Assistant Attorney General. From 1997 until his appointment to the Fourth Judicial District he was self-employed at Blankenship Law Office.[4]

Blankenship was retained in 2010.[5] The Alaska Judicial Council supported his retention.[6][7] He is up for retention again in 2016.
