Douglas Lavine
Douglas S. Lavine was a judge on the Connecticut Appellate Court. He served from 2006 to 2020. Lavine was appointed by Governor Mary Jodi Rell (R) in February of 2006[1] and took office on March 15, 2006. He was renominated by Governor Dan Malloy (D) and confirmed by the Connecticut General Assembly for another eight-year term.[2][3][4] Lavine retired in December 2020, when he reached the mandatory retirement age of 70.[5]
Education
Lavine graduated from Colgate University in 1972 with a degree in history. He then earned a master's degree in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. After he received his J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1977, he earned an LL.M. from Columbia Law School in 1981. Lavine worked as a newspaper reporter and editor prior to his legal career.[1]
Career
Lavine began his legal career in 1981 working in the litigation department of the law firm of Shipman & Goodwin. In 1986, he became an assistant United States attorney. He worked in this position until 1993 when Governor Weicker appointed him to the Superior Court. He was reappointed by Governor Rowland in 2001, and elevated to the Court of Appeals in 2006.[1]
