Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Smith's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Economic Equality and Opportunity: We believe that Economic Equality and Opportunity go hand in hand. For far too long the benefits of America have flowed only to those at the top. We will fight to raise the minimum wage, increase corporate responsibility and profit sharing and oppose any and all laws that make things harder for workers. Shared prosperity cannot be wished for it has to be fought for.
  • Rights for All: We will fight for the rights of all to have basic dignity. We will strive for pay equity, gender equality and toward a society where each and every person is treated fairly and with respect. This starts right here in Michigan with Justice for Flint. But, we cannot change America without you. Join us and we will fight for laws that bring power to the people where it belongs.
  • Fighting the Power of Money: We are different. Every progressive campaign hopes to curb the influence of big money, yet every candidate still feels compelled to play the big money game. We don’t. We know that in this country there are people who are hungry for a new kind of politics. We will deliver it. We will harness the power of technology to raise our entire campaign budget from small donors. When we succeed, we will have shown that things can be different.
