Douglas V. Van Dyk was the Position 4 judge on the Clackamas County Circuit Court in Oregon. The court has jurisdiction over Clackamas County and is located within the 5th Judicial District. He served from 2002 to 2021. Van Dyk retired from the court on April 30, 2021.[1][2]

Van Dyk won re-election without opposition in the primary election on May 17, 2016.

Selection method

Judges of the Oregon Supreme Court, Oregon Court of Appeals and Oregon Circuit Courts are all selected in an identical manner. They are chosen in nonpartisan elections to serve six-year terms, after which they must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving.[3]

The chief judges of the circuit courts are appointed by the chief justice of the state supreme court to serve a two-year term.[3]

Qualifications
To serve on the circuit court, a judge must be:[3]

  • a U.S. citizen;
  • a state resident for at least three years;
  • a resident of his or her circuit for at least one year;
  • a state bar member; and
  • under the age of 75.

2010

Van Dyk was re-elected to the Clackamas County Circuit Court in 2010 after running unopposed. He won with 98.85% of the vote.[4]

Education

Van Dyk earned his B.A. in comparative literature from the University of Washington in 1981. He earned his J.D. from the Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1985.[5]
