2017

Constantine's campaign website listed the following themes for 2017:

Since election as County Executive in November 2009, Dow Constantine has built partnerships and championed innovation to improve the performance of county government and strengthen the economic foundation of King County.

Dow believes that, as a region united around shared goals of fairness, excellence, prosperity and sustainability, we can move beyond tired political divisions to better serve the diverse, dynamic communities and millions of residents of King County and Puget Sound.

In his first term, Dow:

  • Put King County government back on sound financial footing.
  • Created partnerships with Green River Valley cities, legislators, and federal officials to secure $44 million to rapidly repair the Howard Hanson Dam and protect the valley from flooding.
  • Worked with bus riders and businesses to win Legislative and then County Council approval of two-year funding to preserve Metro Transit service.
  • Formed a coalition to finance and build the new South Park Bridge, a critical freight corridor due to open early next year.
  • Led, with State Senator Sharon Nelson, the successful effort to secure public ownership of the proposed Maury Island gravel mine site, preserving upland forests and critical orca habitat along a mile of natural Puget Sound shoreline.
  • Saved tens of millions of dollars in employee health costs through programs that have helped King County workers get healthier—from quitting smoking to losing weight to exercising – while choosing higher quality, lower cost, prevention-focused health care.[18][19]
