I am the Executive and Worship Minister at Southwest Church of Christ and have served this church for nearly 25 years. I am a graduate of Texas Tech University with a degree in Music Education and have 10 years of classroom experience teaching percussion at Amarillo High School. My wife teaches at South Georgia Elementary where she has been for 24 years and she has been an educator for 30 years. I have served the AISD board of trustees since January of 2020 serving as the vice president and the last two years as the board president.
  • I am a strong, proven, servant leader. I have years of experience in organizational leadership in churches, local boards, and the Amarillo Board of Trustees. I am a peaceful leader, always listening to stakeholders, staff, and students. I am a bridge builder working parents, other local entities, and staff do do what it takes to prepare every student for life beyond High School.
  • I am an experienced leader in Education. With my formal education, my experience in the classroom, continued service in the classroom, and my 5 years of service on the board of trustees, I bring unique experience and insight to the board. This experience allows me to see the questions to ask and make the wise decisions for our schools.
  • I'm willing to make the hard decisions. Whether it is decisions regarding school consolidation because of declining attendance, decisions regarding curriculum, or decisions like developing and building AmTech Career Academy, I am willing to dig deep and stand on what is best for students, parents and the community. AmTech gives students opportunities to explore and invest in career paths including culinary arts, veterinary sciences, dental sciences, auto mechanics, HVAC, machinery, welding, building and more. This allows students to come out of high school with marketable skills that are in high need in our city.
I try my best to follow the example of my mother who was a devoted follower of Jesus. She was peaceful and purposeful in everything she did.
Peaceful. Called to serve. Humble listener. Integrity. Understanding of public education and especially school finance.
I was two years old during the Watergate hearings. The only reason I remember that is because my grandma would get so mad that they interrupted her soap operas! I was 10 years old and in elementary when President Reagan was shot. I remember coming in off the playground and watching the news as a class. We were all so scared and it was an impactful event.
Pizza Hut! I did delivery, washed dishes, made pizzas, etc. I think I had this job for about a year. The most influential job I had was working for 8 years in a retirement community. I learned more from the senior members of that community than I could have learned anywhere else.
I'm a musician so that happens on the daily. Probably, "Goodness of God".
Governance and oversight. It is that simple. Our job is not to micromanage but by setting goals and priorities, setting a budget that will accomplish those priorities, and hiring the very best staff to carry out the work of accomplishing those priorities, we will achieve the vision of preparing every student for life beyond highs school.
We absolutely must be transparent in all financial interactions and we are. We are accountable to the stakeholders of AISD.
