Campaign themes

2014

Leavens' campaign website listed the following issues:[3]

  • Government Shutdown: "Forty times the Republicans in the House voted to overturn the Affordable Care Act and forty times it was rejected by the Senate. At what point do you say that they are wasting time and taxpayer money?"
  • Immigration Reform: "Building a higher and longer fence between the US and Mexico will never be the answer to the immigration debate. I support the DREAM Act, to keep children born to undocumented immigrants in this country."
  • Jobs & the Economy: "The best path to the creation of more jobs and higher paying jobs is to add short term stimulus to the economy."
  • Legalization of Marijuana: "Marijuana should be legalized, or at a minimum decriminalized at the federal level, allowing states the final say on what is right for their particular state."
  • Military & Veterans: "The utmost discretion should be used when we consider putting our military in harm’s way. The military are entitled to first class medical and mental health treatment when they return home, not bureaucracy and delays."
