Campaign themes

2016

Speer's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Economy

Eliminate needless regulations that burden job creators and small businesses. Make Iowa the optimal state to start a business or relocate an established entity.

Education

Be a true representative for the University of Northern Iowa and Hawkeye Community College in Des Moines. The Cedar Valley is fortunate to have educational institutions such as these in our community and the they deserve a representative that will stand up for them in the legislature.

Constitutional rights

I will fight to ensure nothing will jeopardize our rights as American citizens. I will protect the Constitution and the liberties and freedoms it has laid out for us all.

Political reform

Treat the state budget like that of a household budget- not spending more than you take in, spending responsibly and eliminating legislative waste. Sometimes it takes a fresh set of eyes, a working-class perspective, and creative intuition to bring about real change.[2]
