A question about whether to recall Duane Thul from his elected position as mayor of Weston, Oregon, in Umatilla County took place in a recall election on December 6th, 2011.[1] Thul was retained in his seat.[2] Thul has served three years of a four year term.
Reasons for recall
Kendra Weber was chief petitioner in the effort. Recall organizers listed eight reasons for engaging in the recall campaign. Among the allegations, Thul was accused of running meetings in a dictatorial style, allowing departments to spend without accountability, refusing to allow a current city council vacancy to be advertised, participating in illegal meetings outside of official city council meeting time, and replacing usable city equipment with newer and more costly equipment.[1]
Path to the ballot
In November 2011, recall organizers submitted 30 valid signatures to election authorities. 28 signatures were required to force an election.[1]
