Dudley Hollingsworth Bowen Jr. is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. He joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. Bowen served as the chief judge of the district court from 1997 to 2004.
Early life and education
A native of Augusta, Georgia, Bowen graduated from the University of Georgia with his undergraduate degree in 1964 and from the University of Georgia School of Law with his LL.B. in 1965.[1]
Military service
Bowen served in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant from 1966 to 1968.[1]

Judicial career
Southern District of Georgia
Bowen was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on July 19, 1979, to a new seat created by 92 stat. 1629. Bowen was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 26, 1979, and he received his commission on November 27, 1979. Bowen served as the chief judge of the Southern District of Georgia from 1997 to 2004. He elected to take senior status beginning on June 25, 2006.[1] He was succeeded in this position by Judge Lisa Wood.
