Primary: He was successful in the Democratic primary on June 10, 2014, receiving 25.4 percent of the vote. He competed against Valaree Smith, Katrina Williams and Henry Youmans, Jr..
Runoff: Duncan Keith Smith defeated Valaree Smith with 50.1 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary runoff on June 24. Initial results showed a three-vote difference.
General: He was unopposed in the general election on November 4, 2014.
