Elections

Voter and candidate information

The Durham school board consists of seven members elected to four-year terms. Six board members are elected by different geographical districts, and one member is elected at large. There was no primary election, and the general election was March 15, 2016. In North Carolina, a runoff is not required in any case unless the second-highest vote recipient calls for one. As no more than two candidates filed for any one seat up for election in this district, a runoff election would not be possible.[2] The District A and B seats were up for election in 2016, along with the at-large seat.

Candidates began to file affidavits of candidacy on December 1, 2015. The filing deadline for school board candidates to get on the ballot in the general election was December 21, 2015.[3] Candidates had to pay a filing fee of $96.[1]
