My name is Dustin Sleight, and I’m proud to call Westbrook home. By profession, I’m a systems engineering manager with a strong background in problem-solving, innovation, and bringing people together to get results. I’ve spent my career leading teams, improving complex processes, and making sure that good ideas turn into real, lasting improvements. Outside of work, I’m deeply engaged in my community. I serve on the Public Safety Commission and am running for City Council because I believe local government should reflect the voices of neighbors, not just numbers on a spreadsheet. I’m committed to smart, fair decision-making—being careful with spending, but bold about investing in the things that make Westbrook a safe, welcoming, and thriving place for everyone.
  • Smart on Spending, Fair on Taxes: I will ensure Westbrook’s budget decisions are transparent and responsible, keeping taxes fair while making sure we invest in the infrastructure, services, and neighborhoods that matter most.
  • Safe, Strong, and Connected Community: As a member of the Public Safety Commission, I know the importance of supporting our police, fire, and emergency services while also fostering strong neighborhoods where everyone feels safe, welcome, and heard. Our public services are a part of the community, not above it.
  • Practical Leadership, Real Results: With my background in engineering and process improvement, I bring a results-driven approach to problem-solving. I’ll work collaboratively with residents and city leaders to turn good ideas into real progress for Ward 1 and all of Westbrook.
I am passionate about open and accessible government. Too often, local politics can feel like decisions are made by and for insiders, rather than with the community. I believe residents should have a genuine voice in shaping the policies that affect their neighborhoods, and that council seats should represent people, not just maintain the status quo.

I also care deeply about responsible budgeting and fiscal transparency, ensuring every dollar is used wisely to balance fair taxes with smart investment in the future. Another priority for me is strengthening our “third spaces” — the parks, libraries, community centers, and gathering places that bring neighbors together and make Westbrook a vibrant, connected city.
I believe the most important qualities in an elected official are integrity, transparency, and accountability. Residents should be able to trust that decisions are made openly, with honesty, and in the best interest of the community.

Equally important are listening and accessibility — an elected official should be approachable, willing to hear concerns, and responsive to the people they represent, not just to City Hall.

Finally, I value practical problem-solving and collaboration. Good ideas only matter if they’re put into action, and the best results come when leaders work together and stay focused on delivering for their constituents rather than playing politics.
My first engineering job was at Sappi in Westbrook, where I began as a process engineer and, over five years, was promoted to supervisor and then production engineer. That experience shaped me in many ways — it taught me leadership, problem-solving, collaboration, and troubleshooting in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. It also gave me a deep appreciation for the working people of Westbrook and the surrounding communities.

During that time, I also gained valuable perspective on labor unions and workplace dynamics, seeing firsthand how people with different roles and responsibilities can work together toward the same goal. That experience continues to inform how I approach leadership and community service today.
