Biography

Dwayne Green was born in New York, New York. He earned a bachelor's degree from Princeton University in 1991 and a law degree from the University of Iowa in 1992. His career experience includes working as an attorney and small business owner. As of 2024, Green was affiliated with Reading Partners and the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority.[1]

An attorney by trade and native son to District 111, Green is a longtime resident of 111 having attended elementary, middle and high school in the District. Green returned to Charleston after college and law school to practice law and raise a family (both of his daughters attended Charleston School of the Arts. He is an advocate for public education, raising teacher salaries, job creation, affordable housing, green space conservation and the legalization of medical cannabis. He is a former City Attorney under Mayor Joseph P. Riley, a former member of South Carolina Probation Pardon and Parole Services, a CARTA Board Member and an attorney for Charleston County Parks and Recreation.
  • Dwayne aims to stimulate our local economy by supporting policies that foster a conducive environment for businesses to thrive. This includes advocating for small businesses and startups, providing them with the necessary resources to create and maintain quality jobs in our district.
  • As a critical concern in our community, Dwayne will work tirelessly to implement sustainable housing solutions that ensure every resident has access to affordable and decent living conditions. This will involve collaborating with local authorities and organizations to address the housing shortage and manage property prices effectively.
  • Dwayne is opposed to onerous “fetal heartbeat bills” and supports a woman’s right to make medical choices in consultation with her physician. Dwayne is adamantly opposed to laws which would force a woman to carry a pregnancy to term when her life is in danger and in cases of rape and incest.
Education and Teacher Retention

Quality education is foundational for our children’s future.

Dwayne will advocate for better compensation and resources for teachers to enhance the educational environment in our public schools, aiming to retain and attract dedicated educators. He will oppose any efforts that promotes discrimination or seeks to ban ‘dangerous’ books. Protecting our rights to free expression and ensuring equal treatment under the law are paramount.

I believe that government should be accountable to the voters and the electorate. Government should be transparent and citizens should have an absolute right to know how they or tax dollars are being spent.
