Shook's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
Economic Growth & Jobs: As a business professor and community leader, Dwight understands that jobs are not created by the government, but he does understand that the government can deter jobs growth through burdensome regulations and mismatched economic development policies. Dwight wants to see new and better paying jobs to Yadkin, Alexander, and Wilkes Counties, and he will fight against wasteful incentives that help other parts of the state, at the expense of our district. As North Carolina's economy grows, Dwight will insure our seat at the table so our region also benefits from the progress made in Raleigh. Improving Education: Dwight understands education and he knows that many of our students simply are not receiving the highest quality education they deserve. As your representative, Dwight will work to hold our public schools accountable for student outcomes, improve basic math, reading, and writing in early grades. And, Dwight will join the Republican majority in supporting our teachers with better pay in order to bring the best and brightest teachers to the kids in our district. We deserve the same standards that metropolitan areas receive and Dwight will not settle for any less. Taxes & Spending: Dwight is the most fiscally conservative candidate in the race. As your representative, Dwight will continue to fight government waste, cut unnecessary spending, and lower taxes to put more money in your pocket. Dwight understands that you know best how to spend your money, not the politicians in Raleigh. Dwight will work everyday to maximize your freedom and cut the size of government in Raleigh. Protecting our Freedoms: As your reprsentative, Dwight will stand firm against government overreach. He will fight against the Federal government's attempts to take away your gun rights. Dwight also has an A-rating from the NRA. Values: As a family man, Dwight understands the importance of the traditional family values. Dwight doesn't want to force or impose his values on others, but he does want to protect his rights and the rights of people in our district to live their lives free from government intervention. Dwight will continue to promote and protect traditional family values and your right to do the same.[11] |

In an article with the Elk in Tribune, Shook said that if elected he was "... committed to putting my background in education and job development to work for the citizens of Yadkin, Alexander and Wilkes counties. I believe in the conservative ideals and conservative principles of the Republican Party and I pledge to serve with the honesty and integrity of my friend and mentor Rep. Mark Hollo. I appreciate his faith in my leadership and I look forward to serving the citizens of our district."[10]
