Medina is a former member of the Stockton, California City Council, representing District 5. She was appointed to the council on January 9, 2013, to serve a partial term, following Susan Talamantes Eggman's election to the California State Assembly.[1] She ran for election to a full term in 2014, but lost to Christina Fugazi.

In the primary election for District 5, incumbent Dyane Burgos Medina and Christina Fugazi advanced past Mark Stebbins. Fugazi defeated Medina in the general election.[2][3][4]
