|I attended several trainings along my way to becoming a candidate. I am an alumni of MSU- Michigan Political Leadership Program 2020 alum, Michigan United Movement Politics 2019, New Leaders Council 2021 and The Kanada Fellowship 2022. I am also former co chair of Detroit Young Democrats, board member of Young Democrats of Michigan and chairman of the Detroit Millennial Roundtable.
I do not like the current leadership and feel in 2022, now is the time to make change. I believe in showing compassion and building the community up. I believe in transparency and helping to provide a self sustaining quality of life. With redistricting happening in our government, now is the time to make significant change for the future of Detroit. Our future is now, right now. #BeTheChange- Opoortunity must be given to citizens to create a new way of life. In my district, there are several places that can be transformed into farmers markets, event spaces and other ways to help build the entrepreneurial spirit. We must also offer the community the opportunity to see leadership lead by example. No more of the getting elected and disappear tactics. While we build jails and juvenile homes, as elected officials, we should be visiting and advocating for men and women, boys and girls to change and what do they need to do so.
- Government transparency is not what it should be. We must elect people who want to see the citizens get the factual information they need. I personally give out my cell phone number to gain the citizens trust, but to show, I have nothing to hide. I want to be held accountable. I believe that citizens should be able to come to Wayne County commission meetings and have free parking. I believe the Wayne County commission meetings should be on TV. I also believe the Wayne County Commission should have more meetings. It is never enough information to give the people that elect you to help you make an informed decision.
- Mental health must be addressed. We do not have enough elected officials speaking about the crisis we have as a country with mental illness. I want to see an actual mental health facility put in the City of Detroit. Not just a regular hospital, but a place where an individual can get healthy. I believe mental illness should be treated like an STD and should be funded completely. Until we start addressing mental health issues, we will continue to see mass shootings, violent crimes and more. Mental illness must be addressed with funding and wraparound services. Nobody should be left behind.
