Edward Gregory Wells is an at-large member of the Appellate Court of Maryland. He assumed office on March 22, 2019. His current term ends on December 31, 2030.

Wells ran for re-election for judge of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals At-large (Historical). He won in the retention election on November 3, 2020.

Gov. Larry Hogan (R) appointed Wells to the position on March 12, 2019.[1] The Maryland State Senate confirmed the appointment on March 22, 2019.[2]

The Maryland Court of Special Appeals became the Appellate Court of Maryland, following a 2022 constitutional amendment that changed the court's name.[3]

Wells was designated by Gov. Larry Hogan (R) to serve as the chief judge on February 17, 2022.[4]

Wells was previously a judge for the Maryland 7th Judicial Circuit for Calvert County from 2012 to 2019. Gov. Martin O'Malley elevated him to the position in October 2012.

Before serving on the Circuit Court, Wells was a judge for the Maryland Fourth District Court.[5][6]

Education

Wells earned his undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary in 1983 and his J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1986.[5][7]
