Blackmon was a 2011 Democratic candidate for District 24 of the Mississippi State Senate. He lost in the primary election to incumbent David Jordan (D).

Elections for the Mississippi State Senate took place in 2015. A primary election was held on August 4, 2015, and the general election was held on November 3, 2015. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 27, 2015.[1] Incumbent David Jordan was unopposed in the Democratic primary. No Republican candidates filed for election. Jordan ran unchallenged in the District 24 general election.

Blackmon ran in the 2011 election for Mississippi Senate District 24. He lost to incumbent David Jordan in the primary on August 2, 2011. Rogrick Wardell ran as an Independent. The general election took place on November 8, 2011.[2]
