The Judicial Update

Texas: Two federal judges for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas recently left their posts. Judge T. John Ward retired and US Magistrate Judge Chad Everingham resigned, both effective September 30, 2011.[1] Judge Ward originally planned on assuming senior status but decided instead to join his son in private practice. Magistrate Everingham resigned to open the Longview office of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.[1]

President Obama nominated Rodney Gilstrap in May to fill the vacancy left by Judge Ward, but he is still awaiting Senate confirmation. Shreveport, Louisiana lawyer Roy Payne was slotted to fill Magistrate Everingham's place.[1]
