Ten Constitutional Referendum Questions were on the ballot in Ecuador May 7, 2011.[1] All of the measures were approved.[2][3]
HIGHLIGHTS
Questions 4 and 5 concerned restructuring of the judicial system.
Questions 1 and 2 concerned the criminal justice system, including how long suspects could be detained and parameters of imprisonment.Questions 3 and 9 concerned limits on media companies, including limiting owners of private companies in the financial and communications sectors from involvement in other sectors and the creation of a regulatory council for media content containing violent, explicitly sexual or discriminatory messages.Question 8 asked whether to limit animal fighting in the country and was voted on at a canton level.Question 7 asked whether to prohibit businesses dedicated to gambling.
