Ed Haggerty
Ed Haggerty was a 2016 independent candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 16th Congressional District of Pennsylvania.[1] Haggerty did not make it onto the general election ballot.[2]
Biography
Haggerty was born in 1942 and served in the Navy after graduating from high school. He served for 20 years and advanced to the position of Chief Petty Officer. After his service, he worked for various companies, utilizing his training in electronics and management. He also ran his own computer consulting service for many years.[1]
Haggerty is a widower who was married for 53 years. He has three grown children.[1]
Elections
2016
Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Republican. Incumbent Joseph Pitts (R) retired in 2016 and did not seek re-election to represent District 16. Lloyd Smucker (R) defeated Christina Hartman (D) and Shawn Patrick House (L) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Smucker defeated Chet Beiler in the Republican primary on April 26, 2016, while Hartman won the Democratic nomination without opposition.[3][4]
