Ed Harris
Ed Harris is a former member of the San Diego City Council in California, representing District 2 from April 2014 to December 10, 2014. He was appointed to the council in April 2014 to serve out the remainder of Kevin Faulconer's term, who was elected as Mayor of San Diego in February 2014. Harris did not run for election to a full term in San Diego's 2014 municipal elections.[1]
Harris was a candidate for the nonpartisan Mayor of San Diego, California, but was defeated in the primary election on June 7, 2016. Although the race is officially nonpartisan, Harris is known to be associated with the Democratic Party.[2]
Biography
Harris served in the U.S. Marine Corps. His professional experience includes working as a professional lifeguard in San Diego. In 1999, he received the Medal of Valor from the United States Lifesaving Association.[1]

The mayor's chair and five of the nine seats on the San Diego City Council were up for election on June 7, 2016.
While the June election was called a primary, it was functionally a general election. The only races where no candidate won a majority (50 percent plus one) of the votes cast in the primary advanced to the election on November 8, 2016. The November election was called a general election, but it was functionally a runoff election. Incumbent Kevin Faulconer defeated Lori Saldaña, Ed Harris, and Gita Appelbaum (write-in candidate) in the primary election for Mayor of San Diego.
