Ed Richardson (Alabama)
Ed Richardson was the interim Alabama superintendent of education. Richardson was appointed to this position by the Alabama board of education on September 14, 2017, following the resignation of Michael Sentance. He served until May 2018.
Richardson previously served as superintendent from 1995 until 2004.[1][2]
Biography
A native of Alabama, Richardson's career in education started when he became a teacher in the Montgomery school system and includes time spent as an assistant principal, principal, and district superintendent. Richardson also served as the president of Auburn University between 2004 and 2007. As of his appointment as interim state superintendent, Richardson was the president of the Alabama Public Charter School Commission.[1][3][4]

Political career
Alabama Superintendent of Education (1995 - 2004, 2017 - 2018)
Richardson was first nominated as state superintendent by the state board of education in October 1995. He served until his resignation in January 2004 to accept a position at Auburn University. Richardson was appointed to the position once more as an interim superintendent on September 14, 2017, following the resignation of Michael Sentance.[1] He served until May 2018.[2]
