I am Ed Wright and I am running for the State Legislature (House District 42). My wife Meg and I have made Wyoming our home for over 40 years. We have raised out family here and we enjoy the sense of community and values Wyoming has to offer. We are your neighbors.

I am a retired Army Major General who was appointed by Governor Freudenthal and later Governor Mead to serve as Wyoming's Adjutant General. As Commanding General of the Army and Air National Guard for Wyoming, I also served as the State Director of the Wyoming Military Department. For eight years it was my honor to support Wyoming's soldiers and airmen and their families during some of the longest and most dangerous overseas deployments in our Guard's history. While serving as Adjutant General, I was also responsible for oversight of the Civil Air Patrol; Wyoming's Youth Challenge Program; our State Partnership with the North African country of Tunisia; as well as the Veterans Commission, Veterans cemetery, and Veterans museums.

I plan to use my 35 years of military experience and training to "Give Back" to our community and State as a member of the Wyoming Legislature.
  • Tough times call for Strong leaders.
  • There is no substitute for experience and proven success.
  • Public service is a calling that requires time and accountability.
My three priorities as a new Legislator will be:

A. Pandemic recovery and adjusting to the new normal;
B. Maintaining a balanced state budget, and

C. Providing sufficient resources while managing costs for Wyoming's K-12 Education Program.
Past President Ronald Reagan is certainly the best president I can remember. In addition to being a great communicator and public speaker, he was bold and charming and did an excellent job of represent American values both at home and overseas.
I believe they are the same principles as those of serving members of the military: loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage.
I have held appointed and elected positions for most of my adult life. Having been selected by former governor Dave Freudenthal and later by Governor Mead as Wyoming's Adjutant General, I have a proven record of public service and successful leadership. I understand what public service means, and what is expected of officeholders.
To understand and obey the Constitution of the United States and the State of Wyoming. To be honest and accountable to the voters who elected you.
To have given more than I received.
While there were certainly earlier events, the one I remember most was being in 7th grade when we received word that President John F. Kennedy had been assassinated. To this day, I still wonder what wonderful things President Kennedy would have accomplished if he had lived.
In my second year in Community College, I dropped a PE class and was DRAFTED into the U.S. Army.
While this was during the Vietnam War, my math scores were high enough that I was stationed in Germany working on computers. While I did not think so at the time, this was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I only stayed in the Army through my draft period, then returned to complete my college degree. When my wife and I moved to Wyoming in 1979 to teach at elementary schools, I joined the Wyoming Army National Guard and retired as a Major General after 35 years of military service.
The Holy Bible. It is the operating manual given by the creator of the universe to anyone who will read it.
Balancing job and family. There is little question that when I was working full time as a school administrator and part time as a member of the Wyoming National Guard that my family suffered. I was not there for them like I should have been.
As a retiree, I am trying to make up for that to both my children and grandchildren.
Our greatest challenges are:

A. Pandemic recovery and adjusting to the new normal;
B. Maintaining a balanced state budget, and
C. Providing sufficient resources while managing costs for Wyoming's K-12 Education Program.
I am hopeful that a vaccine will eventually be found for Covid 19, but that may be some time from now
To craft a balanced budget, we will need to use our state's savings and reserves; review current tax exemptions, expand our current tax base and reduce our state's expenses and footprint.

As a retired teacher, principal, Associate Superintendent and Adjunct Professor I understand the value of education. If cuts must be made in our K-12 Education Program, I believe those cuts should be as far away from teachers and student learning as possible.
In the U.S. Congress, Wyoming's sole House Representative is one voice among 435. Imagine being effective with only one vote.

While Wyoming's House of Representatives is not nearly as big, it is critical that each legislator (both House and Senate) work together in law making.

That does not mean trading favors. It means finding common ground and compromise to produce the best results.
As a retired teacher, principal, Associate Superintendent and Adjunct Professor with over 30 years of educational experience, I believe I could certainly contribute to the Education Committee. Since 17 years of that experience as as the business manager of the third largest school district in the state, that experience along with being a past State Director, I also believe I could be effective on the Appropriations Committee.
Finally, as a retired Army Major General with over 35 years of Military experience, I think I could be a contributing member of the Transportation and Military Affairs Committee.
