My name is Edmond Robinson and I was born in El Paso and raised in the Northeast. I graduated from Irvin High School and started my college career at NMSU. I joined the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and served our great community for 20 years, retiring as a Deputy Sheriff. During my time with the Sheriff’s Office, I continued my education and received a Bachelors of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Masters of Arts in Teaching. Upon my retirement, I received my certification to be a Texas educator, obtained another Masters degree (Master of Science in Criminal Justice) and continued my public service by teaching at the high school level and coaching football. During the last 7 years of my Deputy career I worked out of the El Paso County Courthouse, now known as The Enrique Moreno Courthouse. Serving on several boards and learning the judicial system made me realize that serving as the Justice of the Peace in the exact community I was raised in, would be an honor. Entrust me to lead our community with integrity and professionalism making all our tomorrows brighter.
  • Trusted leadership and educational background that is all ears when it comes to decisions that will impact our community.
  • Representing our NorthEast Community with passion and pride.
  • Creating an atmosphere that welcomes all our community members.
The creation of the Truancy Prevention Program that was approved by Commissioners court in 2015 has substantially decreased the number of truancy cases in all Justice of the Peace Courts. Though making truancy more of a civil issue then a criminal issue, school districts still have there hands full with kids missing school. Intervention plans are in place and being followed by law but kids are still missing school. My plan is to get out into the community, especially the schools in my jurisdiction, and make going to school a priority. Provide our troubled kids with a path that will guide them in the right direction. They are our future leaders.
The Office of The Justice of the Peace is an essential part of the legal system that handles all minor misdemeanors such as traffic violations, landlord/tenant problems, and small claims. Without this office, dockets would be overwhelmingly booked causing our judicial system to be backed up more then it already is. This office helps the entire judicial system by handling smaller cases so the upper courts can focus on class B misdemeanors and above.
I believe being transparent and serving with integrity are two principles all elected officials need to possess. This allows constituents to build trust in their elected official.
I also believe an elected official needs to be approachable, a team player, and a critical thinker. A great leader will learn to work with what they have. Limited resources will always be a problem in governments. Having someone in office that knows how to create relationships will allow the community to prosper. The elected official can create partnerships with community businesses and other offices to help make the community a better place.
My ultimate goal is to serve my community as the Justice of the Peace for years to come. Starting my public service at the age of 20 allowed me to gain the knowledge and experience it takes to serve in this role.
I would like to leave a legacy of being a compassionate effective leader that brought his community, from all walks of life, together.
My first job was a grocery bagger. My father served in the U.S. Army and retired after 37 years of dedicated service. I had the opportunity to be a bagger at the old Commissary on Fort Bliss. I worked there for approximately 2 years.
A fictional character I would want to be is Superman. I know, I know, a popular super hero that everyone knows. But hear me out. Superman doesn’t have any fancy toys. He isn’t some rich snobby person trying to gain the public’s attention. He is a normal person (with superhuman abilities of course) saving lives and doing good deeds under the disguise of a regular person. Doing the right thing because it’s the right thing to do should be the philosophy of a good leader.
I’m a sucker for music, especially country music. The latest song to get stuck in my head is Buy Dirt by Jordan Davis featuring Luke Bryan.
Truancy has always been an issue I was passionate about. Education is truly a key to your future. I believe helping our future leaders becoming the best version of themselves will make our community safer.
I believe the holder of the Justice of the Peace has to have firsthand knowledge of the laws his or her court will be ruling on. Retiring as a Deputy Sheriff allowed me to learn the laws and I continue to teach the laws to my students at the high school level, both criminal and civil. I also believe effective communication skills are essential when dealing with the public and your peers.
Laughter is definitely the best medicine. Having kids you hear jokes all the time. I would say my favorite joke that I’ll always remember is:
You hear the one about Skunks? Oh never mind, it really stinks.
