Edmund Ford Jr. (Democratic Party) is a member of the Shelby County Board of Commissioners in Tennessee, representing District 9. He assumed office in 2018. His current term ends on September 1, 2026.
Ford (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Shelby County Board of Commissioners to represent District 9 in Tennessee. He won in the general election on August 4, 2022.
Ford was a member of the Memphis City Council in Tennessee, representing District 6, from 2008 to 2018. He was elected to the council in 2007, becoming at 28 the youngest African-American ever to be elected to the council and the second youngest overall.[1] He left office in 2018 to become Shelby County commissioner.[2]
Biography
Ford graduated from Central High School, where worked as a mathematics professor, in 1996.[1] He went on to earn five more degrees:
- 2012: Ed.D. in higher education administration and supervision, Tennessee State University
- 2005: Ed.S. in administration and supervision, Tennessee State University
- 2004: M.S. in leadership and policy studies, Vanderbilt University
- 2001: M.S. in mathematical sciences, Tennessee State University
- 2000: B.S. in mathematics, Tennessee State University[3]
Ford also obtained certificates in local government leadership (2009, University of Tennessee) and executive leadership (2013, Cornell University).[3]
Ford has the following professional experience:
- 2008-2018: Council member, Memphis City Council
- 2012: Adjunct professor, Strayer University
- 1999-2004: Academic lab specialist, Tennessee State University[3]

The city of Memphis, Tennessee, held elections for mayor and city council on October 8, 2015. A runoff, if necessary, would have taken place on November 19, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was July 17, 2015.[4] In the District 6 race, incumbent Edmund Ford, Jr. defeated Perry L. Bond and Delvin Lane in the general election on October 8, 2015.[5]

Ford is the oldest child of Myrna Ford and former Councilman Edmund Ford Sr. He is a lifelong member of Ford Chapel AME Zion Church in south Memphis.[1]
