Campaign themes
2014
Amatetti listed his themes for the 2014 campaign on his campaign website:
“ | BUDGETING AND FISCAL STEWARDSHIP We spend more per student any other county in Maryland and 13% more than Fairfax County.
ACHIEVEMENT GAP AND TEACHER QUALITY We are failing to close the gap. Our schools are increasingly divided. Top-down solutions don’t work.
SAFETY Begin introducing armed police officers in schools now. We cannot wait for tragedy to hit our schools. CURRICULUM Our curriculum needs to prepare students all of life’s challenges and possibilities. Our focus on “teaching to the test,” shortchanges other objectives.
Common Core is not a panacea. Do not allow it to reduce curriculum rigor, introduce unproven instructional techniques, reduce the role of parents, override local needs and priorities, or impede instructional creativity.
