Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

My name is Edward Davis, born and raised in Garysburg, NC to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Davis. I was born on January 3, 1977, at Halifax Memorial Hospital in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Currently, I serve as the Area General Manager with ZMC Hotels, LLC. I have one daughter and a granddaughter. Recently, I moved back to Garysburg from Raleigh, NC to run for the office of Mayor.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Safety, beautification of the town, and economic growth.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

I look up to many people, not just one. I admire those who genuinely care about doing right by others and who see the good in everyone.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

I always do right by the people and stand there for the people.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

I stand by my word and will work hard for the betterment of the people who put me in office.

What legacy would you like to leave?

The legacy I want to leave is that I truly enjoyed life and took pride in helping others reach the next level and win in their journey.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

I was 22 when Princess Diana died, and honestly, that event affected me the most during that time.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Started my first job at the Holiday Inn in Roanoke Rapids, NC, and held it all four years of high school. Went to college, and I’m still working in hotels 33 years later. Proud of the journey.

What is your favorite book? Why?

The Art of Letting Go: Restore your inner peace.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

Black panther

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

One thing I struggle with in life is setting boundaries because I want to be everyone's hero. Once I learn how to set them, I know I’ll be doing great.

A mayor is a leader in his or her city. What does that mean to you?

Stand by your word and ensure I get the town’s input. Make sure they support this and that we stay honest and accountable to everyone in the town.

If the mayor in your city is a member of the city council and there's a city manager appointed to handle the day-to-day administration of the city government, what do you believe should be the mayor's top priority in office?

I’m committed to making sure the will of the people who elected me is carried out. I work for the people, always.

If the mayor in your city is not a member of the city council and oversees the day-to-day administration of the city government, what do you believe is the ideal relationship between the mayor and city council?

I’m committed to making sure the will of the people who elected me is carried out. I work for the people, always.

What do you love most about your city?

I truly value the heart of the people in this town and always make sure to do right by them.

What do you perceive to be your city's greatest challenges over the next decade?

The biggest challenge I see is driving economic development, improving town beautification, creating activities for seniors and kids, and pushing the town forward.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between your city and the state government?

We need to work together closely and build a trusting, respectful relationship to get things done and truly help the citizens who elected us.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between your city and the federal government?

We need to work together closely and build a trusting, respectful relationship to get things done and truly help the citizens who elected us.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the mayor's office and law enforcement?

We need to work together because I hold them in high regard. Law enforcement and the mayor's office should have an open door policy and make sure we stay locked in step.

What is an accomplishment that you are proud of?

That I even got the nerve to file to run for this great office.
