Edwin D. Clontz is a district court judge for the 28th Judicial District, which presides over Buncombe County of North Carolina.[1] He was appointed to the court by former Governor Bev Perdue in April 2011.[2] Clontz ran for re-election to the 28th Judicial District in 2014, winning a term that expired on December 31, 2018.[3][4]

Primary: He was successful in the primary on May 6, 2014, receiving 35.1 percent of the vote. He competed against J. Thomas Amburgey and J. Matthew Martin.
General: He defeated J. Matthew Martin in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 52.9 percent of the vote.

In July 2014, the North Carolina Bar Association released the results of a survey in which it asked lawyers to rate the judicial candidates for the trial courts. The candidates were rated from one to five on five different criteria as well as on their overall performance.[6]

Education
Clontz received his undergraduate degree from Western Carolina University and his J.D. from the Southern Illinois University School of Law.[2]
Career
Before his appointment to the court, Clontz served as the chief assistant clerk of the Superior Court in Buncombe County. He also previously served as a magistrate for Buncombe County.[2]
