Edwin Ruthven Holmes
Edwin Ruthven Holmes (1878-1961) was a federal judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, the Southern District and the Northern District of Mississippi.[1] Holmes died on December 10, 1961.

Judicial nominations and appointments
Fifth Circuit
Holmes was nominated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 23, 1935 to replace Nathan Philemon Bryan. He was confirmed by the Senate on March 19, 1936, and received commission on March 20th. On November 30, 1954, he assumed senior status. He served until his death on December 10, 1961.[1]
Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi
Holmes was nominated by President Woodrow Wilson on October 17, 1918 to replace Henry Clay Niles. He was confirmed by the Senate on October 24th, and received commission that same day. He served on the Northern District of Mississippi until March 1, 1929 and on the Southern District of Mississippi until April 6, 1936, when he was appointed to the Fifth Circuit.[1]
