Airplane Mechanic(since age 20), Pilot(since age 17) and Family Doctor(since age 31). My interest in the Port of Skagit Airport and the other marine, agriculture and industrial components of the Port began in 1997 when I moved to Sedro Woolley. I have watched our county develop over the last 28 years and have seen some very good developments in the Port and it's portfolio of projects. With my strong aviation background (BIT in Aviation Maintenance Management) and a years long committment to the improvement of Skagit County I am eager to serve on the Ports board of commissioners.
  • The business of the port needs strong supervision from the elected representatives of the voters who collectivelly own and benefit from the port. The users of the port should pay for all the expenses related to their use. The voters should not be expected to subsidize the airport and marina users. The users of each port facility should not be expected to subsidize the users of the other port facilities. One time projects that have the potential to benefit all the voters/owners are the only expense that I would support being paid for by the district voters.
  • State wide, county wide and district wide government decisions have been delegated far too much to unelected bureaucrats who have involved themselves in areas of our personal and business affairs that harm instead of benefit the population. As a population we need to take back control of our businesses and lives, rolling back the involvement of the bureaucracy in basic personal and business decisions. The Port of Skagit is not a big offender in this overreach but the temptation is always there and I will push it back as a commissioner.
  • I support increasing the board of commissioner size from 3 to 5 members. This will allow more voices to be heard and by allowing one-on-one discussions between commissioners it will make issues better understood without taking away from the public's knowledge of the commissions function.
Aviation technology and training. I support the port partnering with Skagit Valley College to build a training center on campus to supply training for airplane mechanics, badly needed to replace retiring aviation industry veterans.
Most important is a track record of experience and interest in Aviation, Boating and Leasing for small business and other industry.
My very first job was working for Harris Pine Mill building desks and other furniture in a factory setting. I have had several other industrial jobs, including working as an airframe and powerplant mechanic repairing and fabricating on sheet metal projects. I have worked for 28 years as a family medicine doctor.
