The price of one dozen eggs varies from state to state, between localities within states, and between sellers. For the purposes of this article, Ballotpedia determined the cost of one dozen large, grade-A eggs in each state capital. In order to ensure comparable data, all prices, unless otherwise noted in the table below, came from Wal-Mart.

  • As of August 2018, the price of one dozen eggs ranged from $0.42 in Illinois to $4.49 in Hawaii.
  • The price of one dozen eggs was less than $1.00 in 11 states. The price per dozen was between $1.00 and $1.99 in 34 states and Washington, D.C.
  • In five states, the price of one dozen eggs equaled or exceeded $2.00: Alaska, California, Hawaii, Louisiana, and Vermont.
