An effort in Independence, Missouri, to recall Mayor Eileen Weir was initiated in April 2019. Petitioners failed to submit enough signatures to put the recall on the ballot.[1]

Recall supporters

Petitions listed the following reasons for a recall vote against Weir:[2]

a) violation of the City of Independence Charter b) lack of responsiveness, c) waste taxpayers / ratepayers funds, and d) general abuse of power. [3]

Petitioners were required to submit valid signatures equal to 8% of registered voters in the city—4,934 signatures. There were 2,070 signatures submitted, with 1,806 signatures being found valid by the city clerk's office.[1]
