I have a lot of experience and qualifications that make me a good fit for the role of Director on the Dallas Appraisal Board. I've been working in real estate for 20 years, starting back in 2004. Along the way, I've learned a ton about the industry.

Back in 2004, I had two rental properties in Irving, but I was losing money instead of making a profit because of high property taxes. So, I sold them. Then, in 2008, I bought my primary home in Irving and noticed that property valuations weren't always fair or transparent. Every year, my property taxes kept going up, and it didn't seem right to me. That's when I realized I wanted to do something about it. In 2014, I got my license as a Mortgage Loan Officer, which helped me understand how mortgages work and how they affect the real estate market. This knowledge is crucial for understanding property valuations. Then, in 2023, I became a licensed real estate agent. This lets me work directly with clients, negotiate deals, and stay up to date on what's happening in the market. Through my work as an agent, I've learned a lot about how property values are determined and what factors influence them.

My background in both mortgage lending and real estate brokerage gives me a well-rounded perspective that's really useful for assessing property values fairly and accurately. I'm dedicated to bringing this experience to the Dallas Appraisal Board and helping ensure that property assessments are done with integrity and excellence
  • I am deeply passionate about contributing to the betterment of our community. Serving on the Dallas Appraisal Board of Directors would allow me to utilize my skills and expertise in appraisal, as well as my commitment to fairness and transparency, to ensure that property valuations are conducted accurately and ethically. I believe that by being part of this board, I can make a positive impact on the real estate industry and uphold the highest standards of professionalism
  • Transparency and accountability are essential principles for any governing body, particularly one responsible for property valuations. To uphold these principles, I would advocate for increased transparency in the board's decision-making processes, such as making meeting agendas and minutes readily available to the public. Furthermore, I would support initiatives to enhance public outreach and engagement, including town hall meetings and educational workshops, to ensure that the community is informed about the board's activities and has the opportunity to provide feedback.
  • I'm passionate about ensuring fairness and accuracy in property valuation. I believe that my experience and expertise in the real estate industry can contribute positively to the board's efforts in upholding professional standards and integrity within the appraisal process. Serving on the board would also allow me to give back to the community by ensuring that property assessments are conducted ethically and transparently, ultimately benefiting homeowners and stakeholders alike. Additionally, I see this opportunity as a chance to collaborate with fellow professionals and experts in the field to address challenges and explore innovative solutions in appraisal practices.
As a candidate for the Board of Directors of the Dallas Central Appraisal District, I am personally passionate about several areas of public policy that directly impact our community's well-being and prosperity.

First and foremost, I am deeply committed to ensuring fair and equitable property taxation. I believe in transparency and accountability within the appraisal process to guarantee that all property owners are assessed fairly and accurately. This includes advocating for policies that prevent unjust tax burdens on vulnerable populations and promote a level playing field for homeowners and businesses alike.

I am passionate about promoting policies that support sustainable development and responsible land use.
I admire individuals who demonstrate qualities like empathy, integrity, and resilience. I appreciate leaders who prioritize the well-being of others, act with honesty and transparency, and persevere in the face of challenges.

If I were to emulate anyone, it would be those who strive to make a positive impact in the world, whether through their contributions to society, their advocacy for important causes, or their commitment to ethical leadership. By following their example, I can better understand and promote values that contribute to a better future for all.
If you're interested in understanding my political philosophy, I'd recommend "The Republic" by Plato. While it's an ancient text, its exploration of justice, governance, and the ideal state remains relevant today. Plato's allegory of the cave and his discussion of the philosopher-king offer insights into concepts like leadership, democracy, and the pursuit of truth.

For a more contemporary perspective, you might explore "The Social Contract" by Jean-Jacques Rousseau. In this work, Rousseau examines the nature of political authority, the social contract between citizens and the state, and the principles of popular sovereignty and the general will. His ideas have influenced democratic theory and debates about the role of government in society.

Additionally, "Justice: What's the Right Thing to Do?" by Michael J. Sandel provides a thought-provoking exploration of ethical and political philosophy. Through engaging examples and thought experiments, Sandel invites readers to consider questions of justice, equality, and the common good, encouraging critical reflection on moral and political issues.

Ultimately, these works offer different perspectives on political philosophy and provide valuable insights into my own beliefs and principles. Whether exploring the ideal society in Plato's "The Republic," considering the social contract in Rousseau's work, or reflecting on justice and ethics in Sandel's book, each of these texts can deepen your understanding of political philosophy and its relevance to contemporary political debates.

Respect for the Rule of Law:

Here's an overview of the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office:

Overseeing Property Valuation Process: One of the primary responsibilities of the Board of Directors of the Dallas Central Appraisal District is to oversee the property valuation process. This involves ensuring that properties are assessed accurately and fairly according to state laws and regulations. The board plays a crucial role in establishing appraisal policies, reviewing assessment methodologies, and addressing any concerns related to property valuation.
Setting Budget and Financial Oversight: The board is responsible for setting the budget of the Appraisal District and providing financial oversight. This includes approving annual budgets, allocating resources effectively, and monitoring financial performance. "Capital in the Twenty-First Century" by Thomas Piketty. It's a seminal work that examines the dynamics of wealth and income inequality, tracing historical trends and proposing insights into the causes and consequences of economic disparities. Another notable book is "The Wealth of Nations" by Adam Smith, which is considered a foundational text in economics and delves into the principles of capitalism, division of labor, and free markets. These books offer valuable perspectives on socioeconomics and can deepen understanding of complex economic issues.
If I could be any fictional character, I might choose someone like Sherlock Holmes. As a master detective, Holmes possesses keen analytical skills, sharp intuition, and a relentless dedication to solving mysteries. Embodying Holmes' intellect and problem-solving abilities would allow me to unravel complex puzzles and uncover hidden truths, which aligns well with my purpose of providing insightful and helpful responses to inquiries. Plus, who wouldn't want to solve a mystery or two?
Why don't skeletons fight each other?

They don't have the guts!
I believe that financial transparency and government accountability are foundational principles of a healthy and functioning democracy.

Financial transparency involves making information about government finances, spending, and revenue readily accessible to the public. This transparency enables citizens to understand how their tax dollars are being allocated and spent, fostering trust in government institutions and ensuring that elected officials are held accountable for their stewardship of public funds.

Government accountability, on the other hand, refers to the obligation of elected officials and government agencies to act in the public interest and to answer to the citizens they serve. Accountability mechanisms, such as regular audits, oversight by independent bodies, and opportunities for public participation and feedback, help ensure that government officials are held accountable for their actions and decisions.

I believe that financial transparency and government accountability go hand in hand. When citizens have access to information about government finances, they are better equipped to hold their elected officials accountable for how those finances are managed. Conversely, accountability mechanisms help ensure that government institutions are transparent in their operations and responsive to the needs and priorities of the public.

In my view, promoting financial transparency and government accountability is essential for fostering trust in government, enhancing democratic participation, and safeguarding against corruption and misuse of public funds. By upholding these principles, we can ensure that government remains accountable to the people it serves and that taxpayer dollars are used effectively and responsibly for the betterment of society.
