Elaine Houghton

Elaine Houghton was a judge on the Washington Court of Appeals, Division II. She was appointed to this court by Gov. Lowry in 1993 and retained by voters in 1993, 1996, 2002 and 2008. She also served two terms as Chief Judge of Division II and one term as Presiding Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals.[1] She retired in 2010 and was replaced by Judge Lisa Worswick.[2]

Education

Judge Houghton grew up in Seattle, Washington. She graduated from the University of Washington and Shoreline College. She then worked as a registered nurse. In 1979, she received her J.D. degree from the University of Puget Sound (now Seattle University).[1]

Career

Judge Houghton began practicing law in Alaska. Two years later, she returned to Washington, where she worked as a private practice lawyer until she was appointed to the Court of Appeals. During this time, she worked on complex civil litigation cases.[1]
