Campaign themes
2012
Nekritz's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[2]
- State Finances
- Excerpt: "I’ve supported unpopular facility closures, both to save money and to provide the services in a more effective way in the community. And I’m continuing to push for streamlined models for how we deliver our services. Just as the private and nonprofit sectors have done, we must do more with less and ensure that what money we are spending has a very effective, efficient and measurable outcome."
- Pensions
- Excerpt: "We are on the cusp of a historic breakthrough. I am disappointed that we did not vote on the package of reforms that surfaced late in the spring legislative session and hope we soon will return to Springfield to take it up. This is a problem that is decades in the making and now we’re trying to make the hard choices to get it fixed in a much shorter timeframe."
- Medicaid
- Excerpt: "Another massive problem facing our state, I proudly stood with colleagues from both sides of the aisle as we took the first meaningful step to reducing expenses in this state health insurance program. Through a combination of targeted spending cuts and an increase in the cigarette tax that will lower health care costs by discouraging smoking, I worked with other legislators and the governor to produce $2.7 billion in savings in this $14 billion program."
- Education
- Excerpt: " I wholeheartedly support increased funding for early childhood education because with the right direction early on, students can and will succeed in even the most challenging situations outside the classroom. I’m working on special education funding and corporate property tax appeals to ensure we’re capitalizing on the funding available and providing the resources necessary to meet our most critical needs."
- Jobs
- Excerpt: "Some tax credits in Illinois work well to boost our economy, and the EDGE tax credits are one of them. I support reforms to ensure the process for those credits is streamlined so they can better be utilized by companies creating and retaining jobs. I also support improvements in state environmental oversight to avoid unnecessary duplications and hassles in fees and permitting that force businesses to look to other states to grow."

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
