Analysis
2024
In Nebraska, four bills regarding elections were passed in 2024. One of those bills, LB 20, changed the timeline for restoring voting rights to people convicted of a felony by removing a two-year waiting period that had previously prohibited individuals from voting in the two years that followed the completion of their sentence. Under the new law, voting rights are restored to an individual convicted of a felony immediately upon the completion of their sentence, including prison time, parole, and probation. This bill became law without the signature of Governor Jim Pillen (R).
