2025

In 2025, New Jersey lawmakers adopted three election-related bills.

  • A 5116 abolishes the use of the county line ballot design and replaces it with a system that groups offices on the ballot into blocks of candidates and places a number next to the name of each candidate.
  • S 3990 extends the early voting period for primary elections to begin seven days before the primary date, beginning with 2025’s June primary.
  • A 5117 increases the signature requirement to be placed on the ballot for various offices, including state executive, congress, county offices, and school boards.

2024

In 2024, New Jersey legislators passed four bills related to elections. One of those bills, A3690, allowed registered voters who are 17 years old to vote in primary elections if they will be 18 on or before the date of the general election.
