Election lawsuits and litigation, 2024
Election-related lawsuits are lawsuits that government officials, voters, candidates, political committees, campaigns, and advocacy groups bring in state or federal courts challenging part of a state’s election laws or enforcement of those laws. Ballotpedia tracked more than 130 lawsuits originating in 33 states related to elections in 2024. This includes lawsuits filed between August 1, 2024, and November 20, 2024, in a state or federal court. It also includes election-related lawsuits in which the Democratic National Committee, the Republican National Committee, or a state Democratic or Republican party, appeared as a plaintiff or defendant.

The table below lists lawsuits filed in the lead-up and aftermath of the November 5, 2024, elections. Where available, case names and numbers, states of origin, courts of origin, and links to complaints and docket reports are provided. Each case is tagged with a topic that indicates what part of the election administration or voting process is affected by the suit, and cases tagged with Multiple relate to more than one topic.
