Election preview: Louisiana ballot measures focus on state budget funds

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana: The Louisiana primary is only a day away. The weekend election features seven state executive races, 144 legislative races and five ballot questions.
Voters will have a chance to vote on three state budget measures, one health care proposal and one tax question. All questions, if approved, will amend or add sections to the Louisiana Constitution.
In comparison to other states with measures for the 2011 ballot, Louisiana's measures have not attracted a lot of campaign or media attention. According to the state campaign finance database, there are no currently registered PACs. Click here for media endorsements.
In Louisiana, 2011 marks the first odd-year election on ballot measure since 2003 when voters cast their ballot on 15 questions. According to historical records for the latest decade, 2011 also ranks second for the most measures on a primary ballot. 2006 takes first with a total of 13 measures appearing in the primary.
But Saturday's ballot measures won't be the last of the year. One more constitutional amendment is scheduled to be voted on during the 2011 general election on November 19.

Following the October 22 primary, Louisiana voters will face ballot measures again on the November 19 general election ballot.
Louisiana Immovable Property Tax, Amendment 1 (2011) - The proposed measure would prohibit levying new taxes or fees upon the sale or transfer of immovable property. Amendment 1 would add Article VII, Section 2.3 to the Louisiana Constitution.
