Elizabeth Ann Wolford is the chief judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of New York. She joined the court in 2013 after a nomination from President Barack Obama (D). She became chief judge in 2021.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Buffalo, New York, Wolford earned her bachelor's degree from Colgate University in 1989 and her J.D. from Notre Dame Law School in 1992.[1]

On May 16, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Elizabeth A. Wolford to a seat onthe United States District Court for the Western District of New York vacated by Charles Siragusa. The American Bar Association rated Wolford Unanimously Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Wolford's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on July 10, 2013, and her nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on August 1, 2013. Wolford was confirmed on a recorded 70-29 vote of the U.S. Senate on December 12, 2013, and she received her commission on December 17, 2013.[1][2][3]
