Campaign themes
2014
Roberts' campaign website highlighted the following issues:[2]
Property Tax Elimination
- Excerpt: "School property taxes, the most egregious of taxes, need to be eliminated, not reformed. Property ownership and liberty are inextricably linked."
Right to Work Legislation
- Excerpt: "No one should be forced to be a union member, or have union dues automatically deducted from their paychecks. Unions pour millions of dollars into political candidates each year, and by doing so keep candidates in office that empower unions, and become beholden to union bosses rather than their constituents. This is not acceptable. Free markets work, and provide the most opportunity for the most people. Those in the private sector are free to unionize if they choose, but no public sector unions should exist."
Prevailing Wage
- Excerpt: "Prevailing wage needs to be eliminated not reformed. Public projects cost significantly more than they need to because of the prevailing wage. Prevailing wage requirements are not in sync with free market principles."
Eliminate Legislator Pensions
- Excerpt: "The lofty pensions which our legislature provided for itself are illegal. Period. Eliminating legislators’ pensions will relieve the Commonwealth of career politicians and politicians that are more interested in self-preservation than in preserving the constitutional rights of the people."
Common Core
- Excerpt: "This is education without representation. This one-size-fits-all approach to education has never been tried or tested, ignores the undisputed fact that students develop cognitively in stages as they do physically, and attempts to force critical thought before that stage of cognitive development is reached. In addition to reducing our children to the lowest common denominator, the costs to implement the required graduation exams and the changing curriculum have not been appropriately vetted. No cost analysis of Common Core was completed."
